Boy does time fly when you have somany irons in the fire! I write the most intellectually stimulating blog posts in my head while I’m going about the business of home, family, and work. Unfortunately by the time I sit down at the computer after all the shipping, auctions, baths, and bedtime stories are done, my intellectual musings have turned to mush! An affliction I’m sure most all busy parents can relate to.
As for my irons… I am glad to say that TMD’s Big Hole Bead Mandrels are back in production and better than ever! We’ll be introducing some new ring sizes and a longer handle option in the next week or so. The longer handles are going to be a great benefit for those of us who work primarily in boro.
This past weekend, I hosted a preview open house at my studio here in Drums, PA, along with my friend, glassblower, Jeremiah Jones. The studio is finally ready for me to start teaching private lampwork bead making lessons and jewelry making classes again. Jewelry class projects and schedules for October and November will be ready by the end of the week and open for registration. Lampworking classes are by appointment on weeknights and weekends. Although the shop isn’t officially open yet, our doors are always open and available work by both Jeremiah and I, is out on display. We’re also always happy to give a free demo.

Traditionally Spring is viewed as the season of new beginnings, yet as Autumn approaches, I am finding myself experiencing a renewed energy, full of ambition and inspiration. I am now putting my oldest son on the school bus to Kindergarten in the crisp air of the late summer mornings. My glassworking studio has several new additions and remodels that seem to be spurring my productivity. With show season in full swing there couldn’t be a better time for that!
Turning my focus towards my business presence on the internet is very high on my list of priorities after the lazy summer I spent with my boys. I have many new items to list on my website www.thirteenmoonsdesigns.com, on www.bondedbyfire.com, and for auction at JustBeads.com. One of my most exciting new experiences involves entering the world of blogging. In addition to my new blog for Thirteen Moons, I am also participating in the brand new Modern Savages blog project. As a group, we create glass art of a particular inspirational theme, write about our creative process on the Modern Savages Blog, and then simultaneously auction the products of our inspiration on our respective auction sites each week. Watch for our first collaborative auction which will run from September 10th through 17th. In the meantime, enjoy the coming of autumn and check back with me often!
